i’m going to take a moment to hijack flipperhead’s blog and write up her ‘about’ page for her.  i’m keeping my fingers crossed that she’ll miss this link and this little summary will stick around for a while as her welcome to readers both new and old.

flipperhead, or dianna for those who wish to leave neverland far behind, is a runner.  duh.  but there’s so much more to that word.  flipper comes to the sport as an adult onset convert.  diving into the realm of racing and long distance well into her 30’s … ahem … 20’s, she started out at a relatively pedestrian pace.  now, if you know flipper, she puts everything she has into whatever it is she sets forth to do.  within a few years, she had a couple marathons under her belt and was eagerly eying  that prize that is a boston marathon qualifier.  i had the distinct pleasure of coaching her to a successful bq at hartford in 2006 and then in 2007 had the joy of being able to join her for a pr on the boston course itself [read about it starting here].

throughout that season, i was able to get to know the drive, determination and altruism that makes up the core of flipperhead’s personality.   eager to please, unwavering and a little bit stubborn, we walked through a tough training cycle and learned valuable lessons about the coach/athlete dynamic.  flipper is one of those rare people that make relationships easy.  she hears what you say, she remembers details and is always present.  with flipper in your quiver of friends, you’ll never be at a loss for support, encouragement and laughter.

flipper is nuts, too.  while working full time, being a wife, athlete and active member of her community, she thought that she’d have plenty of time to also throw full time school into the mix and undertake a complete career change.  altruistic?  yes.  dedicated?  yes.  smart?  i never said that.  moving from a pr admin position at a university to a physical therapy assistant was a tough switch, but the pta role absolutely suits flipper’s personality and unique skills.  instead of sitting behind a desk supporting pr staff, she now spends her days fending off the romantic advances of octogenarians, dodging the barbs of bitter women and keeping her scrubs poop-free.

flipper runs in connecticut and lives with several animals; one of which is hairy and named jason and the other, darren, is her dog. [sorry jason, i love ya but had to get a dig in there!] she also enjoys pina colodas and getting caught in the rain.
